Description

  • Dirk van Erp
  • Table Lamp

  • hand-wrought copper and mica

Provenance

Cathers & Dembrosky, New York, 1997

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade retains the original mica. The mica shows signs of minor wear, some occasional areas of flaking with associated lifting, and darkening consistent with the natural aging process and gentle use. The mica is much richer in color than it appears in the catalogue illustration (which is slightly blown out with light), and displays a very attractive warm patina when illuminated. The hand-wrought copper surfaces on the base and shade are in excellent condition, showing very minimal signs of wear, a few very light surface scratches, and gentle rubbing. All of the sockets and pull chains appear to be original. All of the copper tabs which support the mica panels on the interior of the shade appear to be original and undisturbed. One tab is missing along one of the vertical side rows. A particularly attractive and well-proportioned example distinguished by its impressive scale, graceful lines to the base and arms supporting the shade, and beautiful rich patina.
