Description

  • Dirk van Erp
  • Two-Handled Tray
  • stamped D'ARCY GAW/DIRK VAN ERP inside a closed box below a windmill
  • hand-wrought copper

Provenance

Amiel Brown, New York
Cathers & Dembrosky, New York, 1997

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The hand-wrought copper surfaces retain their original patina, with some scattered light surface scratches, some transparent spotting and surface soiling, and with a few small traces of surface oxidation consistent with age and gentle use. With some rubbing to the patina, more prevalent to the underside of the tray from prior surface contact. This rare tray presents beautifully in person, displaying superb radial hand hammering and a rich brown patina.
