Condition

Overall in very good condition. The oak surfaces throughout appear to retain their original finish, with some occasional light surface scratches, abrasions, and edge wear consistent with age and use. The top surface of the proper right bow arm with a few barely visible light ring marks. The proper left top corner of the seat back with a very old and shallow triangular surface loss (1 ΒΌ inch). With some occasional stress fractures to the legs consistent with the expected shrinkage and contraction of the wood over time. There are some stress fractures with associated lifting to the reverse sides of two of the horizontal back slats. With a few transparent dark drip marks along the exterior seat rails. The chair retains its original seat foundation. The original muslin over the foundation with tears, soiling and staining. With period (most likely original) faceted pins and spacers supporting the chair back. Lacking seat cushions. A beautiful example of this early and iconic Morris chair design displaying exceptional figuring and rich color.
