In overall good condition. With very minor marks, dents and scratches. Chips to the plinth and pedestal.

Catalogue Note

Born in Valenciennes, Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux began is studies under François Rude. He entered the École des Beaux-Arts in 1844 and won the Prix de Rome in 1854.
Carpeaux designed this important relief for the facade of Charles Garnier's newly completed Opéra in 1865.
