Catalogue Note

Awarded "Designer of the Future" in 2009 at Art Basel/ Design Miami Basel, the Eindhoven-trained Spanish designer Nacho Carbonell created the acclaimed three-piece Evolution Collection in 2009. Comprising the "One Man Chair," "The Lovers Chair" (recently acquired by the Art Institute of Chicago for their permanent collection) and "Evolution Bench," the works are sculpted from a paste of recycled paper over chicken wire.  Carbonell writes, "Living in an era where we are saturated with information at a frenetic rhythm, I wanted to create a refuge where you can escape and digest this rave in which we are submerged. This provides a moment of peace with yourself, with others or between others."
