Centring on an onyx cameo depicting the profile of a lady within a gold frame, measurements approximately, length 26mm, width 20mm, depth 7mm, signed Girometti.

Condition
Onyx carving has slightly paler shadows on either side of the neck, could benefit from a professional clean. Signature GIROMETTI inscribed to the right hand side. Pin fitting secure. Slight scratches to mount consistent with wear. In good condition.

Catalogue Note
Peter Girometti was born in Rome in 1811. He learned the technical art of engraving cameos and achieving the best colours from semi-precious stones from his father, the celebrated Joseph Girometti. Very few works can be attributed to him, he used to sign with surname only and work in the family shop. Despite his death in 1859, his work has a wide production, ranging from commemorative medals, nine of which are Popes including several contemporary character portraits.
