A drawing now in the collection of the Metroplitan Museum of Art, New York by Giovan Battista Foggini ( 1652-1725) shows a console table with the distinctive winged female classical figure, crowning the front supports which can be seen in the present lot, illus. Alvar González-Palacios, Il Tempio del Gusto, Milan, 1986, Vol II, pl.122, p.79.
In very good restored condition. The colour of the top is slightly darker and more attractive than in the catalogue illustration. There are a few minor veneer chips to the marble. The stretchers supporting the top have been replaced. The re-gilded decoration has a build-up of dirt and some patination. There is a crack running down the rear left figure which can easily be filled or left. There are a few repaired breaks to the intricate carved decoration with some minor replaced sections. A few chips and losses throughout. The feet have some age cracks. Correct height is 85.5cm.
An impressive table. "In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
