Description

- 88.5cm. high, 178cm. wide, 89.5cm. deep; 2ft.11¼in., 5ft.10¼in., 2ft.11¼in.
in the manner of Giovan Battista Foggini, with a veneered Siena marble top; regilt
Condition
In very good restored condition. The colour of the top is slightly darker and more attractive than in the catalogue illustration. There are a few minor veneer chips to the marble. The stretchers supporting the top have been replaced. The re-gilded decoration has a build-up of dirt and some patination. There is a crack running down the rear left figure which can easily be filled or left. There are a few repaired breaks to the intricate carved decoration with some minor replaced sections. A few chips and losses throughout. The feet have some age cracks. Correct height is 85.5cm.

A drawing now in the collection of the Metroplitan Museum of Art, New York by Giovan Battista Foggini ( 1652-1725) shows a console table with the distinctive winged female classical figure, crowning the front supports which can be seen in the present lot, illus.
