possibly from the story of Meleager and the Calydonian boar, woven with male equestrian figure and huntsman with hounds killing a boar, with a lady running in with her hounds and spear past the formal fountain in the foreground of a woodland setting, within a four-sided gold and red frame pattern border with stylised clasp corners, later brown banded selvedge
Condition
There are some areas of repair, which are largely to the areas of silk highlights. For example see the sky, where repairs are visible as different colours within sky clearly visible. Some oxidisation to the browns in areas. Some repair to silks, especially where used within highlights of clothing of figures and fur of the hounds in the foreground, and mane of the horse. Some repairs to the borders in areas, and reweaving to the inner bands of the borders. Area of reweaving visible as the blue/grey area underneath as shadow underneath the horse to the far right. Green foliage in good overall condition, with section of reweaving far left centre flanking border.
This tapestry is lined with old linen. Linen is lacking across the top border, and is needed. It is recommended that Velcro be added for hanging purposes in the future.
There is a horizontal split between the top border and the sky area of the main tapestry, where they join, It extends between the area of visible sky, between the branches against the sky and the area of the sky meeting the foliage in the right corner. This can be repaired. Overall stable condition. Very striking and decorative tapestry.
