Description

  • carved mahogany, oak, glass and brass
  • 288cm. high, 293cm. wide, 79cm. deep; 9 ft. 3½in., 9 ft. 5½in., 2 ft. 7in.
 the lower section with a writing drawer revealing a blind Chinese fretwork fitted interior, the pair of panelled cupboard doors carved with leafy cartouches and enclosing a shelf, flanked by two banks of four drawers

Previously sold Sotheby`s London, Fine English Furniture, Oriental Rugs, 15th September 2000, lot 72, £27,000.

Condition

In country house condition with detached elements such as feet and handles (now tied up in muslin bags in drawers). Perished polished finish which is also scuffed. General wear and losses to feet. Age cracks to pediment doors and sides. General old marks and scratches. It is possible that the carcass of this cabinet was made in the 18th century and adapted or `improved' in the late 19th/early 20th century.
