Catalogue Note

Comparative Literature:
H.Kreisel, Die kunst des deutschen möbels, Münich, 1968, plates 88-90 and 87.
This cylinder bureau with its neo-classical drapery, medallions and ribbon-tied roundel on the side is reminiscent of the designs of Clemens Lipper, who was active in the last quarter of the 18th century. Kreisel, op. cit., plates 88-90, illustrates designs by him for furniture conceived in a similar vein, one of which has a similar roundel on the side.

Clemens Lipper (1742-1813) was a Catholic priest and an architect. His designs of which many are kept in the Landesmuseum Münster were often executed by cabinet makers.
