Catalogue Note

Elements of the present table's design have marked affinities with a pattern for a circular table published by Peter and Michael Angelo Nicholson in The Practical Cabinet-Maker, 1827, pl. 61. However the carved serpent entwining the stem appears to be without precedent amongst the recorded published designs for English centre tables of the 1820s.
