Good overall condition. Seats re-caned. Minor old marks bruises and scratches. Excellent quality. Lovely original patina and rich colour. Very good timber

Catalogue Note
A set of twelve solid rosewood chairs of identical design, recorded in a Gillows memorandum of May 1813 with provenance from William, 2nd Baron Bolton, (1782-1850), Hackwood Park, Hampshire sold Sotheby's London, 20 November 2007, lot 188.
A Thomas Bradley, son of Thomas Bradley, a blacksmith of Cartmel in the parish of Walton, Lancashire, was apprenticed to Isaac Greenwood cabinet maker of Lancaster in 1790 and and was subsequently employed by Gillows and is almost certainly the same T Bradley who stamped the present lot. ( ref. Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840) , 2008, 2 vols., Vol.II, p.221).
