the niches formerly with doors; some panels replaced; on a later stand

From a Private Roman Collection
Condition
There are some hairline cracks and cracks generally in lacquer commensurate with age as visible in the catalogue illustration. Old minor marks, chips and scratches with age, but these do not detract from the piece. There are old minor restorations generally. The hinges and lock are later replacements. There are some minor losses to the decoration and to some of the mouldings, which can easily be restored. The panels with prints are in good order in the main, although there is some minor damage and some of the more minor panels have been replaced, for example, the foliate panels above the smaller niches and those above and below the triangular pediment, together with two landscape views on the very narrow drawer above the left side niche. The columns have been re-ebonised and there has been some re-touching and refreshment to the parcel gilding. Some of the oval cabochons are possibly replaced and have their gilding retouched and the gilt-metal borders are probably later and one of them on the top right of the left side niche has lost the border on one side.. Three drawers are missing their handles, which can easily be replaced. The cabinet originally had feet, now on later stand. A highly unusual piece in overall good restored condition.
