comprising four armchairs and six standard chairs, later overpainted decoration
Provenance
Formerly in the collections of the Dukes of Rutland, Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire and thence by descent to the present owner.
Condition
In country house condition Some losses to timber and exposed construction joins. Generall worn and chipped painted finish which is possibly over painted onto the original finish. Upholstery old and worn
Armchair 1 - partial re-railing and age cracks to seat-rails. Later front angle blocks. One replaced rear angle strut and one rear strut missing. Some evidence of very minor old worm to front legs. One front legs with old repairs visible through painted finish.
Armchair 2 - Later angle struts to the underframe. Some minor restoration to seatrails. Front right leg is slighlty reduced due to errosion from worm damage. Chair consequently lists to one side. Front left leg with much lesser errosion to base of leg and foot. Cracks and repairs to toprail
Armchair 3 - Breaks to front seat rail and right rear leg. Minor restorations to underside of seat rails. Angle struts to underside of seatrail missing. Break to toprail.
Armchair 4 - Crack or old break heading top of one front leg. Minor crack to inner seatrail near the front. Replaced angle struts/blocks. Repairs to toprail.
Side chair 1 - Loose back due to break to one of the uprights supporting the oval backrest. Evidence of old repairs above both rear legs. Olr repairs to toprail with iron re-enforcement braces.
Side chair 2 - Partial re-railing. Later angle struts/blocks. Crack to front seatrail. Old repairs to toprail with iron re-enforcement braces.
Side chair 3 - Front ange struts missing with a minor crack in the same region to one side. Replaced rear angle blocks. Partial re-railing. Evidence of old repairs to both back uprights supporting backrest. Old repairs to toprail including iron re-enforcement braces.
Side chair 4 - Partial re-railing. Replaced angle struts/blocks. Repairs to toprail including iron re-enforcement brackes. Evidenc of old repairs to uprights supporting oval backrest. Losses to front right leg
Side chair 5 - Partial re-railing. Missing front angle struts. Later rear angle blocks. Re-jointing to back legs at connection with uprights supporting oval backrest. Worm errosion to back feet. Old repairs to toprail including iron re-enforcement braces.
Side chair 6 - Replacement angle struts/blocks to seatrail. Minor crack to rear seatrail flanking one rear leg. Repair to top of one front leg. Repairs to uprights supporting oval padded backrest. Repairs to toprail including iron re-enforcement braces. Worm errosion to foot of one back leg.
