- ivory, wood (pine)
- 67 x 57 cm,
the carved and veneered ivory frame inset with six dramatic miniatures, based on paintings by van Dyck and others, telling the story of the life and execution of Charles I and the accession of Charles II, the ground richly carved with trophies, scrollwork and swags of fruit between the standing busts of Cromwell and Prince Rupert
Condition
Some portions of veneer lacking on the base rim; also top of left column as well as minor patches on the front, visible in the photograph. Both Cromwell and Rupert are lacking swords in their right hands. There are minor specks of oil paint flaked on the miniatures of the trial and the disembarkation. There are the visible joins and haircracks that one would expect. All in all a most exciting and unusual piece.
