- the largest 52cm, 20 1/2 in wide
in four sizes, each engraved with a coat-of-arms, the largest engraved with a Latin inscription on the rim 'Dono datum RICHARDO IOHNSTON de Gilford Baronetto a gratis Vicinis ob Res pro Patria gestas A:D 1772'
Provenance
The arms are those of Johnston impaling Alexander for Sir Richard Johnston, 1st Bt (1743-1795), of Gilford, co. Down.
Condition
The larger dish with surface scratches commensurate with use and age, the smaller dishes with minor surface scratches, generally good condition. The smallest dish lacking a maker's mark, all without a date letter. Sizes = 1 x 52cm; 2 x 38.5cm; 1 x 34cm; 1 x 32cm wide

Catalogue Note
The arms are those of Johnston impaling Alexander for Sir Richard Johnston, 1st Bt (1743-1795), of Gilford, co. Down, second but only surviving son of Richard Johnston and his wife, Catherine, daughter of the Rev. John Gill of Aghnamullen, co. Monaghan. He married Anne, daughter of William Alexander, a Dublin merchant, at Dublin in October 1764. Johnston, High Sheriff for co. Down in 1771, he was created a baronet the following year and was MP for Kilbeggan in 1776 and Blessington from 1783 until his death.
