Catalogue Note
François Linke was the most important ébèniste of his time. He was born in Pankratz in Bohemia in 1855 and arrived in Paris at the age of twenty. Known for the quality of his work, which had an individualism and inventiveness which surpassed that of his contempories, his greatest success was at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900, where his Grand Bureau took a gold medal. His premises at 170 rue St. Antoine continued to be his main gallery until around 1934. The business continued in existence until a few years after his death in 1946.
