Description

  • Approximately: 248cm. high, 452cm. wide; 8ft. 2in., 14ft. 10in.
within a four-sided border compartmentalised with alternating floral and allegorical figural groups on yellow ground, with inner narrow scrolling ribbon and floral border with red ground

Condition

Colours not as dark as in the photograph, but crisper and lighter and more attractive in reality. The tapestry would benefit from a clean, and is particularly dirty and discoloured across the top edge. Small repairs overall. There are areas of repair to light highlights of clothing of figures, which are clearly visible in left side of composition. There are sections of reweaving and repair also within the border. Reduced width and height, with loss of the outer narrow border, and application of later selvedge. Tapestry is lined with pale blue cotton lining, with hoops across top edge. Recommend application of Velcro for hanging purposes in the future. Decorative piece in good restored condition. With balanced colour and composition overall, and of versatile size.
