An Austrian green painted and parcel-gilt psyche, attributed to Joseph Danhauser, Vienna first quarter 19th century

Some retouching to the painted decoration. Very attractive detail to carving. Four flowerheads are missing from the border around the plate, but these can easily be replaced. Very attractive detail to carved decoration. Some very minor chips. In overall good conserved condition.

Josef Ulrich Danhauser (1780-1829) established his business in Vienna in1804. Having been granted a special manufacturing licence, Danhauser was able to integrate all crafts relating to interior decoration and execute them all on the same premises. His greatest innovation was the development of a special paste imitating bronze to decorate furniture as on the present piece. The demand for Danhauser's furniture was so great that it soon led to the opening of sales agencies in Graz and Budapest. Danhauser's work is characterised by exceptional quality and innovation.
