Condition

Overall good condition; the later leather-lined surface with some age and with scratches; scuffs, bruises and losses to the gilt-tooling; the veneered band to the top appears to have two parallelogram-shaped patches to each long side near the corners of the same short side; tears to the veneers over lines of construction to one long side with some small losses; handles to drawer front and dummy drawer later and each with patches where previous hardware was fitted; small 1/4 inch square chip to veneer next to lock plate to one longs side and with a 1/4 inch square patch to top edge near join with one leg; the handle lightly loose; age crack to edge of frieze and with perishing to the finish in places; the drawer linings possibly replaced; the housing for the drawer appears to be replaced including the panel beneath the drawer all with staining; two long age crack to the underside of the panel to the steps which fold down; the leather-lined surface possibly replaced but with age and with some scuffs and wear and losses and tarnishing to the gilt-tooling; small chip to corner of banding around leather-lined panel and small chips to finger pull; one step to the upper part of the steps with a split to the back edge with some slight separation; the top of one side of the ratchet support with an old long chip to the tip approximately 3 inches by 1/2 inch and with loss to the bottom edge so that it no longer fully touches the support beneath; the steps appear to have been re-finished; the steel hardware with some tarnishing, pitting and dirt in some places; some minor areas of old worm damage to some beech rails; overall with some old marks, scratches scuffs and bruises. Lacking one caster.
