Catalogue Note

Although the construction refers to a more southern origin, the tables are more logically by Leo von Klenze from Munich, 1784-1864. Lot 327 from a December 1993 Christie's London sale has the same typical base as these table and shares a frieze which is comparable with a side table by Leo von Klenze, shown in fig. 522 of H. Kreisel, Die Kunst des Deutschen Möbels, vol. III, Munich 1973.

Comparable console tables were sold Christie's London, December 9, 1993, lot 327 and Sotheby's New York, November 17, 1984, lot 304. A similar lot was also sold Sotheby's New York, October 25, 2005, Ariane Dandois, lot 294.
