With oxidation, some rubbing, verdigris and patina overall with some surface dirt. One leg with small crack to back. Some thinner elements with dents and bending. In good overall condition.

This tripod is based on a Roman original found at Pompeii, now at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, Naples, see G. M. Richter, The Furniture of the Greeks, Etruscans and Romans, London, 1966, p. 14, pl. 1. The original was the model for a tripod used at the baptism of Napoleon's son, the King of Rome, now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. A tripos stand was also presented to the Empress Marie-Louise by the citizens of Milan in 1813, made entirely of lapis lazuli and came from the workshop of Luigi and Francesco Manfredi, see ibid., p.  14, pl. 2. This type of stand was widely popular and copied in the 18th and 19th century.
