the rectangular top with sliding panel opening to reveal a chessboard surface on one side, above a backgammon well, on a turned stem with downswept tapering legs terminating in brass capped casters.
Condition
Overall good restored condition; sturdy; painted surface; stable; the central sliding panel with shrinkage and with subsequent slight separation between central panel and flanking panels of top; age crack to center of panel with subsequent inpainting; age cracks at corners over lines of construction; left side of top edge to central panel with three large chips to painted surface and with inpainting; minor chips to black ground above central classical scene; chip to elbow of one figure and large chip to head of same figure; large chip to front left quadrant of black ground; left flanking panel with three chips to front edge; right flanking panel with chip to interior edge and to front right edge; areas of inpainting to black background throughout and with some restorations and minor inpainting to penwork; cracquelure to penwork throughout; the frieze with small chips and losses and minor lifting to painted surface; decoration to stem and legs refreshed.
