A MINTON MAJOLICA CRAB TUREEN AND COVER 1872

  • 40 cm
the tureen with a central turquoise well surrounded by twelve smaller shaped wells alternately glazed in cobalt or brown, the cover modelled as a large pink crab on a bed of seaweed and with a seaweed finial, impressed MINTON, date code, shape number 801 and letter S.

Condition

There is a small area restoration, measuring approxiamtely 2x1 -in., to the rim of the cover and the cobalt glaze has pooled and is slightly misfired in the wells around the rim, giving the appearance of burst bubbles and visible in the catalogue illustration.
