- Jadeite
each of flattened baluster form carved in low relief on both side with two bands of dissolved taotie masks, the neck set with a pair of animal head masks suspending loose rings, the covers with a seated shishi lion, together with: a pair of small jadeite 'phoenix' vases and covers (8)
Provenance
Acquired in New York in the 1950s (by repute).
Condition
First large vase:
Some minor nicks / very small chips to the edges and extremeties, especially to the mouthrim. There are some brown inclusions and fissures throughout. There are several chips to the mouthrim of the cover, the largest about 1/4 inch.
Second large vase:
There are some chips to the edges, especially to around the mouthrim and footrim. There are some brown inclusions and fissures throughout. There are some very minor nicks to the mouthrim of the cover.
In overall good condition.
First small vase:
There are some chips to the leaves and minor chips throughout. There are chips to the birds' heads and wings on the cover and
Second small vase:
There are some chips to the extremities of the vase. The are chips to the birds heads and wings on the cover and fritting to the mouthrim.
