Description

  • Huanghuali wood
the crestrail terminating in slightly flattened scroll handles, set with a shaped flange towards the undulating front posts with further tapering side-posts, rounded back-posts, and "S"-shaped plain backsplat, the rounded front- and back-posts continuing through the seat frame to form the straight legs of square section, all secured by ruyi-shaped aprons with beaded trim above low foot stretchers bearing further low aprons (2)

Condition

The chairs are in good condition. The aprons on the back of both chairs have 1/2 inch pieces on the bottom of the spandrels that are matched pieces of wood. The splat of one has a 3 inch splice on the side filling in an irregularly shaped loss in the wood. The other chair has a 2 1/2 inch fill which appears to have been used to stabilize knots and irregular graining in the wood. Overall nice patina.
