Description

  • CERAMIC
of hexafoil form, the deep sides, the exterior with two concentric ribs and covered in an even pale celadon glaze

Private Collection, Sweden.

Condition

This is in good condition, but has a small (7mm by 2mm) chip to the footrim and the interior has some scratches and surface wear to the glaze.

A related brushwasher, but of larger proportions, in the Nakamura Kinenkan Museum, Kanazawa, is illustrated in Sekai toji zenshu, vol. 12, Tokyo, 1977, pl. 78; a smaller example covered in a crackled glaze, in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, is published in the Illustrated Catalogue of Sung Dynasty Porcelain in the National Palace Museum. Lung-ch'uan Ware, Ko Ware and Other Wares, Taipei, 1974, col. pl. 78; and a third slightly smaller example was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 5th November 1997, lot 1382.
