in the form of an archaic bronze gu, relief decorated and painted in copper-red and celadon tones around the exterior with cranes, deer and scholars, all reserved on a rich powder-blue ground

Condition

This vase is in good condition, but does have a chip to the footrim (2.5cm by 6mm at widest point.). There are two iron spots to the rim adn some piting to the glaze to the interir and some scratches to the glaze to the exterior.

Catalogue Note

It is very rare to find a relief-decorated Kangxi vase of this type, although two powder-blue vases of different form, decorated with similar technique and in similar colours, are on display in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, both from Salting Bequest, one decorated with the 'Eight Immortals' acquisition no.C966-1910, the other with a dragon among clouds, no.C988-1910.
