Description

the body with deep flaring sides rising from an angled base and tall spreading hollow foot to an everted rim, finely and deeply carved around the exterior through the red lacquer layers to the black ground with eight lança characters enclosed within leafy lotus strapwork panels and reserved on a floret-diaper black ground, all above a lotus-lappet band at the angled base, the stem with narrow floret bands above a ruyi and pendent jewelled band reserved on a black wan diaper ground, the interior with gilt-metal liner, the inside of the foot incised and gilt with a horizontal six-character mark

Condition

In overall good condition except for some chips to the delicately carved decoration, with the largest being a 2cm loss to the foliate scroll near the top. There are a few minor chips to the decoration and the lanca characters, some are neatly restored and repainted. There are also a few short cracks and a 3 cm chip to the foot ring and some relacquering to the foot covering some of the other cracks.
