Description
the cinquefoil lobed cover finely carved to the top through the red and green layers with a large chun ('spring') character centred with a medallion enclosing Shoulao and rising above a bowl overflowing with auspicious emblems, reserved against red and green radiating waves, the rounded sides of the cover and box with a broad band of leafy fruiting peach, pomegranate and finger citron sprays, the interior and base lacquered black
Condition
The box and cover are in overall very good condition with some minor nicks to the carved decoration. The interior and the base are slightly discoloured, possibly due to age. There is a 1 cm chip to the lip of the box, slightly restored with overpainting. The rims are retouched with paint.
