Description

of cylindrical form supported by three ruyi-head shaped feet, the exterior enamelled with large stylised lotus flowers in blue, pink, and red, each borne on a scrolling foliate scroll with floral offshoots on a turquoise ground, all between pendent and upright ruyi-head bands at the mouth and foot, the incised four-character reign mark followed by one character tang on the base in a gilt-bronze square

Condition

The overall condition is very good with only some minor pitting to the enamelling. The gilding is in quite good condition. The underside has a bit more wear and is a bit dirtier, but can probably be cleaned by a professional restorer.

Catalogue Note

The form of the present lot is derived from a Ming dynasty drum-shaped tripod vessel. A very similar vessel with a slightly different colour palette was sold in these rooms, 11th April 2008, lot 3039.
