Description

of slightly domed square section, raised on four low cabriole feet, enamelled on the exterior with alternating roundels of Chinese-style flowers and landscapes on a pink ground, set on one side with a gilded chilong handle, the slightly recessed base painted with a sprig of lily within a foliate border, the fitted cover similarly decorated, modelled in the form of a square funnel with its mouth encircled by two pairs of bats

Condition

There is wear to the pink enamelling along the edges of the cover where the cover was inverted when removed from the pot. The cover has been protected by a clear varnish to prevent further wear to the enamelling. The sides of the pot have had some light restoration to small areas of loss including a small 1 cm circular patch to one side. Two of the sides along with smaller patches on all 4 sides have been protected beneath a clear varnish. Some of the enamelling along the edges and corners have been restored. The interior is stained black due to use as an ink well. There is ample gilding remaining along the gilt metal areas. The underside naturally has some scratches and pitting, but appears to be unrestored.
