A PAIR OF GILT-BRONZE AND CLOISIONNE ENAMEL CENSERS AND COVERS QING DYNASTY

Description

  • Cloisonne - enamel and bronze
the bodies of each of rounded form with two elephant head handles, decorated with a band of scrolling lotus, on three elephant head suports, the domed covers, each with a similar band of scrolling lotus, below a pierced band of lotus and a reclining elephant supporting a knop finial

Condition

These censers are in fair condition with the exception of small areas of loss of enamel to the base of the body, restoration to a 3mm wide line of enamel above the elephant head legs around the entire body, and a chip to one of the enamel embellishments of the head of an elephant head leg of one censer; and to the other censer, small areas of loss to the enamel at the base of the body where it meets the bronze feet, the loss of the enamel to one of the elephant head feet embellishments. There is a thin line of possibly resin to hide the pitting where the enamel meets the bronze and tiny losses to the cloisonne enamel on one cover. Overall the pieces, there are short light scratches and tiny nicks to the bronze Please note that the enamel on the pierced sections of the covers are champleve enamel, not cloisonné enamel.
