Catalogue Note
Ding vessels of this type are distinct for their compressed globular body supported on three unusually tall and slender legs. For examples of ding from this special group see two illustrated in Zhongguo qingtongqi quanji, vol. 8, Beijing, 1995, pls. 10-11. Compare another related but larger ding in the Avery Brundage collection included in René-Yvon Lefebvre d'Argencé, Ancient Chinese Bronzes, Berkeley, 1966, pl. XXXIX; and one offered at Christie's New York, 22nd April 1999, lot 191, also of larger proportion compared to the present piece.
