gouache on silk, painted in the manner of Shen Quan (1682-1760), depicting two dear beside rockwork and peony beneath an old gnarled pine tree, a monkey clambering in its branches attempting to extract honey from a bee hive, all within a river landscape

Condition

This painting is in generally good condition, but does have some scratching to the surface to the left of the tree trunk. There is some horizontal and vertical creases/cracks to the surface that relate to the work being rolled and possibly folded. There is a 3cm x 63cm area of horizontal restoration running above the nose of the male deer. A new section of silk has been placed in and painted over. There is also a 4cm x 24cm area of restoration to the left of this area. There is a 20cm area of vertical restoration over a central crack towards the upper central section. There is also a vertical area of restoration 2cm beside the head of the monkey to the upper section of the nose.
