Description

the deep lobed oval bowl finely carved with leaf-shaped handles, one curled to the left, the other to the right and embellished with a pair of rubies, all supported on a domed flower-shaped leafy foot, the translucent well polished stone of olive-green tone with darker inclusions
Condition
This rare bowl is in good overall condition with the exception of a chip to the tip of the leaves extending out from the base of the foot and a 7cm., long natural brown fissure running down into the bowl from the rim (visible in the catalogue illustration). It should be noted that the stone is of a slightly cooler green tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.

Catalogue Note
This bowl follows in the style of Mughal jade wares in its sinuous organic form and thinly carved walls. During the Qianlong period Moslem jade carvers were brought to work in the Palace Workshops to fashion similar wares and exact copies of Indian jades held at the Palace were reproduced by Chinese craftsmen working at the court.
