Catalogue Note
Chapman's free and flowing translations of Homer's epics were first published separately by Butter in 1611 and 1614; this is the first collected edition of the first complete translation into English of Homer's works. Chapman was a notable playwright in his day but his modern fame rests on this work, particularly through the agency of John Keats's "On first looking into Chapman's Homer".
