Catalogue Note
"...Yea let us further search and Consider of the men that breake into uppon the goodes & liberties of this common wealth..." (Francis Rous, 26 January 1628/9)
A contemporary account of the contentious Parliamentary session of 1629, a key moment in the struggle for Parliamentary sovereignty which culminated in the Speaker being held in his chair to allow Sir John Eliot to voice criticism of royal policy. Multiple manuscript copies of the 'True Relation' survive, a testament to the importance attached to the debates of 1629. It was compiled from the accounts provided by two sets of news-letters with speeches inserted at appropriate points, and was first printed in 1641. This copy is previously unrecorded.
