showing the devastation caused by the Atomic bomb, together with photographs mostly taken on board HMS Glory, a Colossus-class aircraft carrier in the Pacific theatre, showing the official surrender of the Japanese forces in New Guinea (14), British former POWs (6), and other subjects, 34 photographs in total, the majority with caption and censor's stamp on the reverse, various sizes (340 x 230 mm to 85 x 105mm), October 1945 to March 1946, seven photographs with modern backing and captions, one photograph rolled

Catalogue Note

These photographs were taken by a young Petty Officer on board the Glory (except for a small number that were taken by the ship's official photographer). The ship paid two trips to Hiroshima to survey the effects of the nuclear explosion in January and March 1946.
