Olga Beckett was the daughter of the playwright's uncle Dr James Beckett (d.1971), an outstanding sportsman and anaesthetist by profession, who had both legs amputated in 1967, and whose family Beckett generously supported from that date (see Sotheby's sale of English Literature & History, 12 July 2007, for a collection of over 90 letters by Beckett to "Jim and Peggy").
