Catalogue Note

In this letter of typically aggressive impetuosity to the British consul at Livorno (Leghorn), Nelson exudes confidence and impatience in his desire for an attack on the French. Nelson had a critical role in the successful siege of the Corsican town of Bastia, which surrendered some two months later, although without the frontal assault that he had desired.
