Catalogue Note
This copy is as described in Grannis 39, apart from lacking the leaf of advertisements. "When only a few copies were issued, Ollier, the publisher, insisted that certain passages be removed or changed, and Shelley, under protest, acceded. The changes resulted in a new title page (The Revolt of Islam), a half-title, 26 cancel leaves, and a Preface ending on page xi instead of xii".
Shelley's longest work, described by Richard Garnett as "a poet's impassioned vision of the French Revolution and the succeeding reaction". Wise terms this the second issue because of the 12 or so copies released in 1817 with a page with a quotation from Pindar. Some copies have an errata sheet bound in after A2.
