Catalogue Note

Shepard first illustrated The Wind in the Willows in 1931 after visiting Kenneth Grahame the previous year. Peter Green, in his biography of Grahame, notes that the author was 'delighted (as countless children and adults have been) by the drawings Mr. Shepard produced'.
