  • An archive of material, comprising:
  • ink on paper
(i) a bundle of autograph manuscripts including preliminary notes, sketches, and draft passages for his unfinished novel Lascar, drafts of poems and a short story ("Something Tender"), illustrated ideas for landscape gardening and interior designs, and draft letters, with corrected proofs of six poems and a portion of the first chapter of Lascar, in variously coloured inks and copiously illustrated, in total about 105 pages, mostly folio; (ii) 25 autograph letters signed, by Tennant, to the interior designer and socialite Michael Renshaw, discussing himself, his writing and art, design schemes, mutual friends, effusing on the beauty of Wilsford and its "serene calm beauty", and other subjects, c.38 pages, chiefly 4to, with 15 envelopes, Wilsford, 1952-66 (iii) c.25 letters mostly to Tennant, by various friends and family members, mostly on personal and family subjects and several discussing a possible exhibition of Tennant's paintings, 1960s-70s (iv) two disbound scrap-books containing a wide range of photographs cut from magazines (chiefly of actors and actresses), cuttings, postcards, and other material, with related material loosely inserted and also and various fragmentary typescripts, mostly fragments, including "Rumpelstiltskin: A Play for Children", by Pamela Tennant (v) a group of c.38 receipts and invoices, including for books, 1930s; nicks, tears, and stains
