  • An Egyptian Bronze Figure of the Apis Bull

  • Height without tenons 4 1/2 in. 11.4 cm.
the sacred Memphite Bull striding on a rectangular base engraved on two sides with inscriptions naming Penwiya, son of Shuefendish(?), the sun-disk with uraeus between his tapering horns, his engraved ornaments including a broad beaded collar, a winged scarab over the massive shoulders, an embroidered cloth with quatrefoils over the back, and a vulture over the hindquarters, the tuft of the tail with striated markings, an engraved triangle on the forehead.

Excellent condition; there is a dent and as well as some deep ancient scratches across the front of the base.
