A rare George I tortoiseshell japanned stick barometer with Royal Society thermometer scale, circa 1720

with concealed tube, the barometer scale divided into three inches with decimal graduations and engraved with weather indications between foliate scrolls within a chevron border, the alcohol thermometer with a paper Royal Society scale graduated from '0' - Extreme Heat to '90' - Extreme Cold and with temerature observations, both scales with recording indicators, the case with brass finials and decorated in gilt with chinoiseries

Barometer tube not inspected and possibly replaced - contains mercury. Engraved scale in good condition. Original thermometer tube. Paper scale is dirty and scuffed under the recording indicator but otherwise reasonable. Case decoration is generally good with some refreshing to the gilding.
