Description

  • Framed: approximately 67cm. high, 28cm. wide; 2ft. 2in., 11in.; Textile Visible: 53cm. high, 15cm; 1ft. 9in., 6in.
worked in polychrome silk threads, five sections, with alphabet from A-V running across the top within blue banded border, and an extra EF far right of alphabet, four needlework sections worked with foliate motifs within assortment of trellis patterns, the top section embroidered with fish in the sea, various animals, birds and insects and the sun, moon and clouds, all on a natural linen ground; Framed, mounted and glazed

Condition

Framed, mounted and glazed. Small brown coloured glass bead added to eye of rabbit, and four small seed pearls added to centre of flower in third section up. EF far right of alphabet, possibly initials of embroiderer. No border, just stitched round all edges of linen. Discoloured and faded, some loss of minor areas of threads, in animal section. Overall good condition.
