  • Framed Sampler: approximately 48cm. high, 38cm. wide; 1ft. 7in., 1ft. 3in.; Textile Visible: 32cm. high, 23cm. wide; 1ft., 9in.
including a polychrome silk sampler, 18th century, worked with alphabets, and signed in pink and green threads, Rachel Bennett,  the lower section embroidered with large motif of flowers in a vase, all on a natural linen ground, together with a petal shaped needlework panel, late 17th/early 18th century, worked in tent stitch with a seated lady holding a bird and staff, against an exotic oriental style flowering stem, on a musk pink worked ground (not illustrated);  Both framed, mounted and glazed (Qty 2)

Condition

Sampler: Some small holes in the ground, and rucked edges around near the mount. Slightly pulled and therefore not flat lying, visible to area of large stem and flower in centre. Small rust marks to ground of lower section, and dark ink spot marks, far left and right, to lower section, within the bottom line of the alphabet. Framed Sampler: approximately 48cm. high, 38cm. wide; 1ft. 7in., 1ft. 3in.; Textile Visible: 32cm. high, 23cm. wide; 1ft., 9in. Shaped panel: The surrounding cream support with brown outline marks. The petal is hidden by the mount on the left upper edge. Good overall colour. Framed: Shaped section 41cm. high, 32cm. wide; 1ft. 4in., 1ft.; Textile Visible: 30cm. high, 21cm. wide; 11in., 8in.
