Description

  • Framed: approximately 49cm. high, 40cm. wide; 1ft. 7in., 1ft. 3in.; Textile Visible: 31cm. high, 24cm. wide; 1ft., 9in.
worked in various stitches, with needlework alphabet and numbers, and bands of scrolls and floral motifs, the lower section with three cartouches, enclosing stags and the centre with crown above Hannah Trample II 1752, all within an embroidered floral surround, the central lower edge with a basket on a hill, all on a natural linen ground, the panel centred in mustard thread with proverb:

Framed, mounted and  glazed.


Condition

Some fading to colour. The colour orange appearing in petals and running motif is in reality more red in hue. Embroidery overall in good condition. Some staining to the linen ground. There are small holes to the ground in several areas, noticeable on close inspection, for example from top right corner, hole underneath red carnation petal, then near the Z, of the top alphabet, hole to the right of the blue flower centre right, holes in bottom right corner, hole left of hilly mound bottom edge, hole far left corner, small hole left of blue flower centre left edge, and small hole above crown near the coral coloured running motifs, bottom left, and triangle of three small holes within the capital letters of the central alphabet and running motif below. Some warp threads in linen more visible than others, visible as vertical lines. Framed, mounted and glazed. Worked in various stitches, with needlework alphabet and numbers, and bands of scrolls and floral motifs, the lower section with three cartouches, enclosing stags and the centre with crown above Hannah Trample II 1752, all within an embroidered floral surround, the central lower edge with a basket on a hill, all on a natural linen ground, the panel centred in mustard thread with proverb: Indulgence Soon rakes with a noble mind Who can be harsh that sees another kind Mildness in Temper have a force Divine To make even passion with their nature joine
