Description

  • Both framed: approximately 42cm. high, 50cm. wide; 1ft. 4in., 1ft. 7in.; Textile Visible : 27.5cm. high, 35.5cm. wide; 10in., 1ft. 1in.
one depicting a courtly couple in a landscape, the other with a running hunstman with hounds in pursuit of a stag, with onlookers behind a wall enclosing a garden; Both framed, mounted and glazed (Qty 2)

Condition

Colours tonally correct. Appearance crisper more defined and more attractive than in the catalogue photographs. Fresh greens and blues. Both use silk and wool threads. Both are a little loose in the mount and not completely flat. Evidence of the ground canvas being a hazlenut brown colour, and not a pale canvas. The panel with the hunt (left hand image in the photograph) is in good overall condition with use of thicker wools for the bricks to the walled garden. Some minor losses and repairs. Overall in good condition. The panel with the couple (right hand image in the catalogue) has some silvered thread detailing to the hats of both. There are areas where there is no use of thread and the lightened canvas is showing, for example see the arms and neck and hair area of the lady, and the face of the male. There are areas of canvas showing around the riverbank far right centre, visible as lightened canvas outline above the ducks, and areas of sheep, and trunks of trees (brown canvas). There is a hole to this panel, centre of far left edge, between the foliage near the arm of the lady and the foliage above, visible as white lining behind. Attractive pair of panels.
